WATERFALL LEGEND

One particular legend is the koi fish’s claim to fame. An ancient tale tells of a huge school of golden koi swimming upstream the Yellow River in China. Gaining strength by fighting against the current, the school glimmered as they swam together through the river. When they reached a waterfall at the end of the river, many of the koi turned back, letting the flow of the river carry them away.

The remaining koi refused to give up. Leaping from the depths of the river, they attempted to reach the top of the waterfall to no avail. Their efforts caught the attention of local demons, who mocked their efforts and heightened the waterfall out of malice. After a hundred years of jumping, one koi finally reached the top of the waterfall. The gods recognized the koi for its perseverance and determination and turned it into a golden dragon, the image of power and strength.

LÉGENDE DE LA CASCADE

Une légende particulière est la renommée du poisson koi. Un conte ancien raconte l’histoire d’un immense banc de carpes koï dorées nageant en amont du fleuve Jaune en Chine. Gagnant de la force en luttant contre le courant, l’école brillait alors qu’ils nageaient ensemble dans la rivière. Lorsqu’ils atteignirent une chute d’eau au bout de la rivière, beaucoup de koï firent demi-tour, se laissant emporter par le courant de la rivière.

Les koi restants ont refusé d’abandonner. Sautant des profondeurs de la rivière, ils ont tenté d’atteindre le sommet de la cascade en vain. Leurs efforts ont attiré l’attention des démons locaux, qui se sont moqués de leurs efforts et ont augmenté la cascade par méchanceté. Après cent ans de sauts, un koi a finalement atteint le sommet de la cascade. Les dieux ont reconnu le koi pour sa persévérance et sa détermination et l’ont transformé en un dragon d’or, image de puissance et de force.
